The past is already complete and the future isn’t promised. The only time you really have is this moment - the NOW. At 25 I read a book that changed my life, my perception, my daily intention - and then I forgot it all, just when I needed it the most.
The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle, is a powerful reminder that any time other than the present is illusory, i.e. not real. We constantly live in a fictional world, denying our present environment, surrounding and interactions. “Connecting” has become a lost art.
My children are young. Their minds are still pliable, being shaped by their life experience. As a mother, I have choices and at least some control on how they develop, however slight. Yes, the outside world will impose their views on their budding minds. Yes, they will be influenced by forces other than me, however strong of a force I emit. It’s only natural.
What is unnatural is to live in a time and place where the present is ignored, unrecognized, denied. This moment is actually all that matters. Now this one. Ok, now this one, too. So, make each moment count.
“All negativity is caused by an accumulation of psychological time and denial of the present. Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry - all forms of fear - are caused by too much future, and
not enough presence. Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms
of nonforgiveness are caused by too much past, and not enough presence.” ~ Eckhart Tolle.
I encourage each of you to read, peruse, review this book. Read as much or as little as your time will allow. It will only stand to benefit your own life, and the lives of your children. Your collective time together will be exponentially improved just by getting your mind right. Become present. Live in the now. The right now.
